First-hand experiences with Moonlit glass rods? Especially heavier 5wt-8wt S-Glass? I’m on a tight budget but trying to upgrade from my 30-year-old Pflueger Purist. I think I would prefer to stick with glass and found one of these rods for under $100. Any input would be appreciated!

No experience with the heavier weights but I love my 3wt. Nothing flashy but a super solid glass rod that’s like butter to cast

  2. I own the 8 weight and use it for carp and bass.
Heavy swing weight, stiffer than my other glass rods (not as wet-noodley) and slightly faster action, but it’s a ton of fun, inexpensive and gets the job done.

I haven’t even thought to replace mine with any of the more popular glass rods.

  3. Don’t know anything about Moonlit. But I’ve got a lot of xp with CTS, Epic, Echo, Haldin, old Fenwick, and some no-brand Chinese/Korean stuff. Of all these brands, the Haldin 88 is my go to blank for 8 wts.

  4. I have the 5wt and have really enjoyed it so far. Not super noodley as mentioned. I typically use it as my dry or dry/dropper rod since it offers great tippet protection for those tiny flies. It also tosses smaller streamers pretty well as long as you don’t need a ton of distance.

They definitely saved a couple bucks on the reel seat and the cork. Neither are super high quality and my handle has a ton of filler. But Moonlit also has great customer service and can get you cheap replacement sections quickly.

  5. I’ve got a 3wt glass. Amazing rod I absolutely love it. I know of two other guys who also fish for brook trout and they love the 2wt. Can’t speak to the higher wts but they do make a great rod
