So as the tittle says, is my platty pregnant? I’ve been very suspicious because I got her 17 September and she was already fat then but has been showing more signs (black dots in belly from one side, picking at other fish, male following her) no pineconing at all thank fully!

The other fish I bought her with is also bloated but has no black dots, she is less see trough though!

I got a breeder box to be sure, I would love to witness this as I am first time pregnant fish mom!

What are you guys thinking? I ruled out sickness but as a first time platty owner I would love other opinions!

  1. Likely yes, but I’d recommend a mess breeder box so she gets more water movement. Also, give her some more cover- they get stressed out very quickly if forced to give birth in the open.

From the picture no. But if you watch her and that bit of black grows larger well then yes she is.

more often than not if you get older female livebearers they are going to be pregnant, i had the same experience with my mollies almost all the females I bought have given birth within two weeks of getting them, the ones who didn’t were just really small weak ones who ended up dying
