Betta Fish: UPDATE: Fugly the betta

You may have seen my post before about Fugly the betta. I said that if he was still there in a week, then I would bring him home well today I went just to get some fish food and some neon tetras for my tank and went to check on him. His gills look more irritated than before, and I mentioned it to an employee and she said she would mark him down almost nothing if I would bring him home And give him a good life. I have some supplies for a hospital tank, but I’m not sure how to go about it. His gills are red and irritated, and his face looks almost dry and crusty. Would just adding him to my tank be the best solution and let it heal on itself or should I treat with Kanaplex or aquarium salt.
