This is the best angle I can get. I woke up this morning and could hear the filter from my bedroom on the second floor. Went downstairs to find the tank was roughly 4 inches short of water all over my hardwood floors.

The filter was draining water down the back onto the floor. I took some pictures, gently eased it back together properly, and now 8 hours later it's pushed halfway back up.

It's a fluval aqua clear 50 in a 29gallon tank. Been running it for about 7-8 months.

  1. Too much filter media. Dont overcrowd the media compartment and I wouldnt go higher than the overflow thing

Rinsing them under the tap water won’t truly hurt the cycle. There is more bacteria INSIDE the tank that it will be fine. If you have live bacteria I would add that after rinsing the media in the filter. Don’t clean out the filter itself JUST THE MEDIA. I’d refer you to Prime Time Aquatics and KG Tropicals on YouTube for more. Also Aquarium Co-Op

I have this filter. It’s probably clogged. Put some tank water in a bucket and clean the filter media in the tank water. Don’t use tap water. You can stand something heavy like a stone on top or a strap around the filter to stop it lifting when clogged.
