As someone who lives and works near many of these spots, the map or Massachusetts spots is misleading. I suspect it’s counting multiple spots along the shoreline of the same body of water or multiple points along the same beach.
We’ve got tons of fishing spots here, but putting multiple pins on the same pond doesn’t suddenly make it multiple ponds. I can understand it a little better for coastlines or river banks that span a few miles and a few different parking lots or trailheads.

I prefer to fish more remote areas where there’s few people like up in my area of Vancouver island BC, anything from bass to halibut can be caught here. More lakes and rivers here than one could fish in an entire lifetime, not to mention the countless saltwater fishing opportunities basically in our backyard.

i used fishbrain when i lived in boston and noticed a lot of pictures of the lakes and fish for “spots” weren’t even pictures from that spot. that was a couple years ago, so maybe it’s fixed but i never had luck using the app
but i remember getting it and going “holy shit this is the fish mecca” and being pretty disappointed when a lot of the spots weren’t accurate or even fished

I mean, unless you want to do catch and release only if stay away from Massachusetts as a whole for fresh water fishing. I grew up in Boston and the Charles was so dirty you couldn’t even swim in it legally let alone eat anything from it.
