I’m in the aquarium hobby and seem to mostly know what I’m doing at this point but I cannot keep bettas healthy to save my life. Which is really unfortunate because my girlfriend loveesss her bettas but they rarely thrive (they’re mostly in my care). She bought this guy from pnwbettas recently and he was in a quarantine tank for a month and we moved him into his new (cycled) tank 4 days ago. Today I noticed his face is swollen and his left gill is inflamed and I possibly see some white fuzzy stuff under it. He’s a little lethargic (usually he is super active). He also has some white bumps on his body (not ich).

The water parameters seem fine to me: ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate <5.0 ppm, ph 7.4, temp 78 degrees. I put some catalpa leaves in (my girlfriend doesn’t like tannins but I told her this might help him). Does it look like Popeyes? Now I’m terrified everyone is pineconing? Do I now treat bacterial infection? Kanaplex? Should I do a water change?

  1. Forgot to say the tank is 6.5 gallons with some driftwood, a couple live plants, and algae. It has a sponge filter and heater. Imwe set the “new” tank up a couple months ago and it was seeded with the algae covered driftwood from another tank to start the cycle and it’s been cycled for over a month. The tank used to have a couple rice fish fry in it to keep the cycle. But they moved out when he moved in. I did a 50% water changed when I moved him in 4 days ago. We feed about every other day. Just a couple of mouthfuls of either betta biogold, vibra bites, xtreme awuatics nano pellets, or frozen thawed bloodworms
