Agressive black phantoms. What to do?

  1. Some more context:
I had adopted one male black phantom for about 3 months ago. A few days ago I bought four (2m, 2f) more, to finally give him some friends. The first few days they seemed to get along well but since this morning they are constantly fighting.

It is mostly the males, so I put the new ones on timeout. The old one is still chasing the ladies away from his favorite corner, but the whole tank has calmed down.

What is the best approach here? It’s a 19 gallon tank with 8 neon tetras, a pleco, and these 5 phantoms. Should I buy more females? Get rid of the old male or perhaps the new males? Wait it out?

I’m at a bit of a loss. I appreciate the help!

  2. The thing that stopped the black phantom aggresion for me was making the school bigger, also I happen to have a slightly higher number off females compared to males. The males still sometimes flash fins to eachoter but no chasing or nipping.

Since they are new I would first try to wait it out, cases like mine where problems presest aren’t too common with black phantoms.
