Got it at a tag sale, just wondering if it’s any good (I plan to take it apart and clean it restring it)

  1. I was going to say if it works then yes. But a shimano with maintenance will last for years problem free, and the rear drag adjustment is awesome. You may need to open it up and clean out the old grease and put in new grease due to age but if it turns then yes. My Shimano 4000RJ is 15 years old and still works like a charm, though it wasn’t cheap to begin with.

I have the same one sitting my garage. It’s a nice creek rod for sure! I would say make sure you open it up and regrease it

These can still be bought new. My local tackle shop sells them for $12.99. I believe they’re around $20 on Amazon.

  4. It’ll do the job just fine. I think a ton of people had this reel years and years ago. My dad had 1 on an old Ugly Stik and I was always so jealous of that quick fire bail.
