Here’s two 6-8” largemouth that I caught today on the biggest Mepps comet. The lure looks very large and ridiculous, but it gets attention from fish and you won’t miss out on those small fish that keep the action going between lunkers.

Good luck to all— get out on the water and stay at it; persistence pays off!

  1. i caught like a7-8 inch perch on a 5 inch shad a while ago fish don’t really care as long as the girth is small enough to shallow. always try to match to the bait fish size here later on in the year there aren’t that many tiny fish as most have grown quite a bit already to survive winter so i have very little luck with small sub 3 inch lures but most fish are coming of 4 and 5 inch shads.

  2. >don’t scare away the little guys.

Big lures almost never scare little fish, however if the lure is too big, the fish will not be able to fit the hook in their mouth. Largemouth bass are incredibly bold. They will attack basically anything that goes near them if they are hungry. Even if it’s huge. Fishing with something too big is incredibly easy when fishing for panfish.

Fish will almost never pass up an easy meal. A small lure is almost always a much easier meal than a big one, however the big lure is a whole lot more noticeable and loud for a bass or pike to attack.
