So I did a small little repair where there was a tiny broken piece of cork. I have now fixed it and it’s as smooth as ever, however I was wondering if someone had any luck in matching colours back?
This is a custom fly rod but I’m unsure if the maker put some sort of coating on the rod or if it’s slowly faded overtime.
You can see where I sanded and I would also like to ask the question if that new surface area will cause any issues if I don’t coat it with something to protect it?
I really appreciate any replies; cheers.

Sand it down with very fine sandpaper.
I use magic eraser to clean my corks. Then U40 sealer
My fishing partner gave me two rods that had very discolored cork handles. Blackened from all the years of using the rods.
I took a paper towel and put a small amount of rubbing alcohol on it. I wiped down the cork handles and now they look brand new. No discoloration at all.
Dirty cork is nostalgic. Why clean it?
