Spent the weekend on the water chasing coho. Caught some pigs and some dinks. Pup enjoyed himself too.

Years ago, my dad became a snook guide in the 10,000 islands in Florida (after he retired from the navy). He had a miniature schnauzer that insisted on going fishing with him every time he went out. If he didn’t take her, she would pee on his pillow as she stood on the bed to watch him through the window as he walked down to the boat. She didn’t care about the fish, she just wanted to be with dad.

  2. Always. My dog freaks with joy the minute I start loading up. At two years old, she starts barking when a rod goes off, sometimes before I see it.

Do you know about salmon poisoning? You want to be careful about your pooch licking the fish, fish blood, slime on the decks. https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/salmon-poisoning. Not dinging you, just sharing. I keep doxycycline in the house for fast treatment if symptoms show. Dogs recover readily if they get this quickly. They often die if they don’t.

In the boat, I bag fish immediately, and hose the deck immediately after boating a fish. I use fish bags I get from Englunds Marine, I think Johns Sporting goods, and Outdoor Emporium have them. They are just long, narrow poly bags. Those go into the insulated fish bag.
