i took this fish in from a relative that had no idea what they were doing. i’ve had him for about 2 weeks or so. I saw him try to jump out of the tank the other day & im worried because i know thats related to stress. i did a reading on the water in his tank but i need help reading it. i really want to help him be his best. he just sits at the bottom most of the day, he eats & everything but he’s not actively swimming.

  1. I’d definitely add way more cover and points of interest to the tank as its quite barren, and check if the filter is too strong. And also cover the filter intake pipe with a sponge. These fish do best in heavily planted dimly lit tanks with very little to no flow.

Do you have an ammonia test?

  2. I’d recommend getting a test for ammonia as that is what is going to be most harmful to him.

I’m guessing that tank isn’t cycled which means there’s probably ammonia built up. If it’s not cycled you’ll want to do water changes frequently to avoid high ammonia levels.
