So I just got into saltwater fishing after getting into freshwater for 2 weeks but I bought this 309 Penn reel and a Penn mariner combo I’m good condition for $50 off Facebook marketplace. The problem is I didn’t know there’s different type of saltwater combos until I asked a fishing shop owner and I end up buying a offshore rod/reel when I needed a inshore one because I just don’t see myself ever really on boats. I tried it out with a friend the next day but the lures would constantly snap off for every good cast by the time I figured out how to. Do you think I should try again and maybe my knots weren’t good enough or is it just the rod or the reel I need to replace or should I just try to sell it and buy another one. (Also u think I got a good deal? They go close to $100 online new but a pawn store offered me $25)

  1. That’s a decent deal but you cant shore fish with that. It’s meant to drop line off the side of the boat, any casting isn’t really going to work
