I just set up this tank, it’s being cycled although I used some old substrate under new soil for the beneficial bacteria.
What to watch out for in the first days?
The plants are hydrocotyle tripartita in the back and eleocharis parcels in the foreground.

  1. The need to put something inside. Deadass, for everyone (me included) when they just started a tank and its in the cycling stage they just get itchy fingers to put something inside once a week passes.

Honestly you can put something inside…which is plants. Plants help the cycle go a little better and smoother but other than that you gotta hold off from putting anything else inside

  2. Nice first tank! Regularly testing your parameters—like ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates—is crucial, even if it can get tedious. Since you’re doing a fishless cycle, just be patient.

As someone else mentioned, consider adding more plants and driftwood to help stabilize the overall environment. Plants are great at absorbing nutrients and reducing toxic substances. They also provide hiding places, which can help prevent stress for your fish.

Having to wait for fish can be very painful at the start and making sure dosing the aquarium with a sufficient level but not too much ammonia is important when fish less. I’d suggest a sprinkle of fish food here and there
