On one hand, I think this reel might be perfect for the dudes who catch 2lb bass with their drag buttoned way down and 50lb test. And I can see a case for frogging/top water – you definitely don’t want the fish to be able to dive into the slop.

On the other hand, I can’t help but imagine if a bigger fish than you expected takes your lure, there’s a good chance you’re snapping your rod. Also, don’t most baitcasters nowadays have like, 15-30lb drag? If you button that all the way down, no bass is going to be gaining much on you

  1. I’ve seen multiple videos in the past of people that say they don’t use the drag in baitcasters. They use the release button.

For Flipping heavy cover you definitely dont want drag slipping. With that said just get the reel you actually want and tighten down the drag fully. I have yet to have a fully tightened drag pull outside of bfs gear or a reel that has a max drag of less that 10lbs.

At first I thought these were reels with already locked down drags that you can’t unlock. Then Kastking told me there really isn’t any drag at all, no drag washers to lock down. I haven’t opened one up so not sure how that works.

I’m guessing if your “locked down drag” reel slipped at one point while heavy cover fishing, then this might be the reel for you.
