It is currently cycling, gonna plop him in there as soon as it’s safe 🙂 I’ve been using API quick start to get the cycle going. The substrate I bought came with a bacteria packet that I also added.

He’s been kept in a 3 gallon for a while and it went okay for a little but there was a lot of errors made with the tank along the way and overall the tank wasn’t enough for him. But, I have been saving up a long time to get him everything he needs to thrive in this new tank. Got to make another trip to the pet store to pick up more decor and maybe a few more plants later today. I think the tank could have more vegetation. Parameters are reading 0.50 for ammonia right now. There is some spiderwood, an Amazon sword, and an Anubias currently in the tank.

He recently began to show some weird signs of a fungal infection around his mouth, so I also picked up some api pimafix and began dosing him two days ago.

I can’t wait to see how he transforms in the new tank. It’s a total upgrade from the tank he has been in. If anyone has any advice, I am here for it 🙂

  1. I’ve heard anything with “fix” is bad for Bettas because it has a tree oil that clogs their labyrinth lungs. Hopefully someone will chime in with an alternative medication.

Also you might be able to get the cycle completed sooner by putting your used old filter meia in the new filter. As there’s probably good bacteria on there!

The treatments with the “fix” suffix don’t usually do too well. I’ve heard too many mixed things to trust them. I’d use kanaplex for a fungal or bacterial infection as I’ve rarely heard anything bad about kanaplex versus any of the API “fix” products.
Beyond that, I’d only add a couple more plants to the tank, a betta hide of some sort, and maybe a lil leaf hammock for your lil guy. He’s gonna LOVE you for this upgrade, trust in that 😆 I see a big bubble nest in your future 🤣 a salt bath (aquarium salt ONLY) would also be a good idea for his fungal infection.
