Got this for 5 bucks at a thrift store. Seems to be a really good deal. Do I just need a baitcaster rod? Am I going to be happy with this vs spinning reel? Mostly just bank fishing for bass and walleye.
An ambassador for $5 is a great deal. You will need a casting rod for it. Conventional baitcasters are typically used from boats or when you need a lot of line capacity for big fish. They don’t cast very far so typical lure fishing wouldn’t be ideal for it. It is good for heavier setups like float fishing, bottom fishing with weights, and maybe some swim baits. I would definitely hold onto this reel but a spinning reel is more versatile for the type of fishing you want to do.
