It works the same way as a screw-lock hook, but you have a bait spike instead of a screw-lock. You insert the spike in the nose of a soft plastic lure then put the hook point through the lure till it just pokes through the back, allowing for a weedless presentation.

If you’re fishing for bass I prefer bigger hooks to lower the chance of gut hooks. If Im using smaller hooks and know a bass might eat my bait I usually pinch the barb down just in case.
