A: I am biting the bullet and picking up a deep sea fishing reel. It’s a squall lever drag. I have never in my life had a conventional reel. Seeing as though I am explicitly going with some buddies to catch absolute monsters, what are a few tips you can give me to guide the line back on when you’ve got something on the line. I’ve had a few 7-8 footers with my buddies rods and had no idea how people guide it on when something of that size is attached. Any tricks?

B: I need a rod for this reel, and I can’t decide on a good cheap-ish (not crap but not luxury) rod to go with. Any recommendations?

Adding to this, I know this is going from 0-100 real quick, but I think I’d rather get the good stuff immediately rather than buy small and then go into large when ready. Maybe this isn’t the way to go about it but that’s how I see it at least.

Thanks y’all!
