The pet store had them labeled as a female, but I assumed they were mistaken as I didn't see an egg spot. This could just be due to the pattern and the fact that they won't hold still, though. I don't see a beard when they flared and they aren't making bubble nests.

Looks to me like it’s a Plakat male koi betta since the fin under its head (the beard) seem to be pretty long it’s most definitely a male and I’d say koi just due to the coloring of him.
