Hello All, my son has been asking me have an aquarium for a while and I caved as his birthday his in a few weeks. I read that I needed to prepared the substrate and plants a few weeks before getting the fish and to cycle the water a couple of times. So I got this 10l tank, it comes with gravel and I think a bottom filtration system but I’m not sure if it’s missing something ? Not sure I assembled it correctly, I don’t see any air pump…. Any thoughts? I’m looking for your expertise on keeping a simple thank with 2 or 3 plants and recommendation on the type of fish that would be happiest living in it! Thanks in advance 🙂

I have found most kits that require an air pump dont usually cone with one.

I would say for plants, go low maintenance, like java moss or an Anubias or crypts on a piece of driftwood just so it looks interesting. You can fit a betta in there but make sure to give it lots of ‘sitting’ spots, they are happiest when they have territory that is interesting but also feels cozy. Definitely recommend cherry shrimp, they will mostly survive with a betta if you give them a big chunk of moss or little shrimp tunnels to hide in. They come in sk many different colours
