Why doesn’t my line cast properly?

I have an ugly stick 6’6 8-15lb and a pflueger president 40. I chose the bigger size reel because I’m in Florida mostly fishing on 2 brackish rivers connected to the Gulf of Mexico close to the shore, I want to try saltwater, and figure I might outgrow the rod but not the reel. I spooled 15 lb braid on it and went out. Best case cast would go about 25-30 feet always stopping around the same distance. The typical cast was throwing the line and instead of casting out it would spin back around and helicopter the rod, even with the bail open and my finger off the line. If I hold my rod straight forward and open the bail the lure doesn’t fall to the ground. What am I doing wrong? I spooled it myself(I’m sure you can tell lol) is it wound too loose/sloppy? Do I need to add weights or use heavier lures? Do I need to use a lighter line? Is my reel spooled too poorly? If I did it wrong can you tell what I need to fix when respooling? Or is it another issue? Thanks for your help!

Under spooled so you just need more line. If you have a good tackle shop close by then I recommend having them do it for you. Only advice I have since we don’t know how well you can really cast.
