Go Fishing With Nowakowski Outdoors. 🎣
Got out really early Saturday morning to the Hennepin Canal State Park Trail, going to the Lock 3 area. Walked up to where there's a berm that goes across and the water flows through some tube's under it. The berm is for access to either side.
Tried spinnerbaits, topwater and crankbaits. Had a couple small ones just miss the crankbaits as I lifted it up. They came out from under the debris bunched up against the grating I was standing on. Finally got one on a F.S 2.0 Squarebill. After not getting anything else, I moved up to the next berm and tube where I had decent luck last time here.
Was mostly concentrating on fishing along the current and eddies as it exited the pipe. Caught some 5 more on that F.S 2.0. The fourth one was 1lb13oz, 14.5" and the sixth was 1lb7oz and 13.75".
Switched to the Googan Squad squarebill. At first I wasn't sure what I caught. Thought I snagged whatever it was at first because it wasn't fighting normally. The current might have had something to do with that maybe. When I got it close enough, I saw it was a Flathead Catfish! A really nice surprise! It was 1lb1oz and 14". Released it back to the water. Caught one last dink for the day.
It was beautiful out there. The water level was up by about 8"-10" Here from the recent rains. Was hoping it'd make fishing a little better. But I definitely will take what I got and call it a perfect day!
