  1. If your fish isn’t in a cycled tank already, you should just add it to this and fish-in cycle after doing a water change to drop any ammonia or nitrite. Sorry if you already know that, but there have been a surprising number of posts recently where people have been fishless cycling a tank because they’re scared to fish-in cycle even though their fish was currently in an uncycled container.

  2. Is it just one fish? You have plants in there – if you just toss the other filter from the old tank on, the bioload would be spread even more, and there would be the same bacteria that was running the former tank. Some live bacteria culture would also accomplish.
