Was recently eyeing the Slash Rigid reel and was considering getting it from a local distributor. I was advised to go for the 4000 sized version and was told it would be sufficient for the local species, (Red Snapper, Barramundi, Catfish) but I wanted to check out the reels in person .

When I got to the store, only the 6000 sized reel was available and was told that the smaller 4000 was located at another outlet and had another buyer interested in it so on impulse I purchased the larger 6000 instead, not wanting to travel further.

Having had the reel for a few days now I did more research and have come across many posts recommending 4000 sized reels for the fishing I usually do (jetty saltwater and general boat fishing, mostly still inshore) and now I'm starting to feel buyers remorse.

Is this reel too big for my usual use cases? Should I return it and get something smaller? I wanted to try using lures for my next trip out and am worried if the large reel would affect my experience.

  1. NGL it’s a pretty heavy duty reel. If you plan on doing some big off shore fishing save it for later use, if you’re trying to get on the species you listed above I would recco the 4000 too.
