Lake Apopka question

I am a kayak fisherman who just moved to Lakeland. I wanted to try my luck for some big bass on Lake Apopka. In my research I found an area I would like to try but it looks like the closest boat launch, if it's still there, is about a 6 mile paddle from where I want to fish. What are the best boat launches for close fishing.
