Hatchery employees wade out into the river with a large net to collect chinook salmon below this gate. These fish are then dispatched and brought to the hatchery where their roe and milt can be collected, after this the roe is fertilized, once the eggs hatch they’re raised until the juvenile salmon are ready to be released. On the far side of the gate there’s an opening that allows coho to pass through. Fishing is prohibited 100 meters downstream of this structure.
