I’ve been using these mini Dungeons that are tied with fabric as the head instead of the typical deer hair. Once the fabric is wet, it sinks at a perfect rate to get to the feed zone during the retrieve. However I no longer have access to these, and can’t find them anywhere (I also don’t tie my own flies).

My question is – since I am limited to the standard deer hair dungeons, is it advisable to add a small splitshot right where the knot meets the fly? Is this common practice? In my experience the deer hair dungeons just skirt the top of the water on the retrieve..

Thanks! Picture of the fly attached.

Use a sink tip leader on floating line or sinking line with short mono. You can add split shot in a pinch but it tends to pick up goop and snag too much.
