So after killing a couple fish, I learned. I did a lot of reading. A lot of waiting. A lot of testing.

I thought this would be a simple hobby. Bought stuff, bought fish, and they died. I felt like a piece of crap. After about 6 weeks, I finally got my tank to cycle. Super excited. I’ve had my two fish for about four days now. Got a glo angelfish & a bleeding heart tetra so far.

They’re very happy so far, me too!

  1. It’s good that you’re learning and doing better but how big is the tank? Angels need 30+ gallons minimum. And tetras need to be in groups of at least 6, preferably more. If your tank can’t provide that then you should return them ASAP and think about a stocking plan that works for your setup.

I feel like the first 3 to 6 months are a struggle of finding a balance between stocking, food, lighting, water changes, and fertilization for that particular tank. When you’ve got the tank stable and on a schedule that keeps nitrate under 20 and the fish and plants healthy, you’re big chillin forever after that point until the fish get old…then new fish lol.
