Hello,

I've been fishing for pike on a lake with lures about a dozen times now but I can't even get 1 out…. I usually use shads of 12-15 cm and also jerkbaits etc….

I don't have a kayak and I also sometimes fish on a river but there my catch is not really good either….

I caught a pike once while perch fishing but this pike was only 15 cm long, however when I tried to fish for pike I never had any luck…. I don't know my neighborhood very well in terms of fishing and I already tried to ask for advice from people but they don't want to reveal their secret spots.

I also don't really have a fishing club or something nearby where I can ask for advice….

Does anyone have any tips?

  1. Try going back to basics. Red and white Daredevil spoon or a Little Cleo. Steady, medium speed retrieve.

  2. Try different retrieval speeds. If the water is cold, slow your retrieve down. Give them a chance to eat. If the weather is hotter, retrieve faster. Sometimes pike want it retrieved as fast as you can reel. I always start fast and if I see followers but no takes, I slow it down. Lastly I can’t stress this enough, MOVE, cover water. Learn to find structure under water. Break down the water into grids, cast at a bunch of different angles from shore. If nothing bites MOVE. I see so many people just pounding water, not even casting in different areas just same spot over and over. Also never ever pull your lure out of the water when you have it all the way in, sometimes pike follow it to your feet. Do a little pass right infront of you and keep ur eyes open before casting again.

Crank baits, mag draft or the xps glide bait and you’ll land pike if they are in there

  4. Pike is my moby dick catch as well, me and a friend managed to catch one once with a slow top water crank bait, one of those fat lures that rattles.

But nothing since, a whole bag of lures and moving around and trying different times but no luck.
