At nearly 40 years old I decided it was time for a new hobby and decided fishing would be it. I’m glad I did!

Using ChatGPT and YouTube videos I bought my first pole and other supplies needed. Found a little lake near my house, and caught me some cuties. (Yes, I actually used chat gpt to helped select which set of flies I should buy lol).

It was quite a rush pulling it out of the water. No idea what these are, but they put up minimal fight lol.

Lessons learned so far:

  • watch out for trees above or behind me.

  • be prepared to tie knots and lose precious flies

  • foam bobbers can split in half

  • fish are VERY slimy

  • I detest grass in the water. Somehow, some way, my fly is attracted to floating grass.

  • I probably need some water proof shoes or high rubber boots or something. Getting away from grass at the shore would help a LOT.

  • bring snacks.

  • buy “floatant” for dry flies or try your luck with the ones that look like ants… maybe they are called nymphs? Not sure. It worked for me though.

Anyway, best of luck to you all and I think I am now officially addicted. 💀
