Hey, I am going to be setting up a new 20 gal tank and I already have this Tetra heater. I think it will work for my purposes, just a fish and possibly a few shrimp in the tank, but I've never used this brand of aquarium heater. Will it be acceptable to heat my tank since I'm putting fish in it instead of a frog, newt, or turtle? Thank you!

  1. It looks like you can’t adjust the thermostat on it, it would probably be fine, but you should get one that is adjustable and a thermometer just to be safe

  2. I’ve heard of these things failing after some time and heating aquariums to 80+ degrees.
Also, I “think” the heating element is either exposed or has less padding around it. Those larger openings could allow for a fish to accidentally swim against it. To be safe I’d go with a different heater.
