God’s, the worst pet you can get for an aquarium. It requires no light. It requires cold water or it gets stressed. It needs vet care and a vet that is specialized in those things. It requires a diet of stuff or it starves. It’s dumb as fuck. No gravel or they die. No stress or they die. They get 15 year old. They need at least 1 meter long tank. No heavy filter. No heavy flow. They’re stupid. I hate them. Don’t get the hype around them. I had those as pets and I am HAPPY I don’t have them anymore. NEVER AGAIN.

This is an axolotl. I am an owner of a few and they are not an easy pet to keep. They eat a very specific diet of live worms that need to be cut up. No gravel in the tank because they will try to eat them too and choke or have an impacted bowel from them, leading to death. I have an expensive chiller to cool the tank down to 60 degrees. Without cool waters, they are very susceptible to fungal infections, skin mucus issues, and constipation. The vet bill for these guys is crazy high and so is their medication. They also require a lot of space to swim and a powerful filter to suck up the never ending poop, both of which are expensive. They cannot have other fish or animals with them in the same tank as they will get picked on and get hurt. This is due to them being extremely stupid and gentle creatures. Do not get one without proper research and make your daughter do it too. I do not recommend this as a pet unless you are well versed in fish and reptile care.
