First time ever owning a fish I have waited 24 hours declorinated the water waited for the water to fully filter it also has a heater I added catappa leaves and bark and I plan on buying aquatic plants and wood debris and later on a snail to help keep the algae down. Since I am a beginner I did get a 2,5 gallon tank yes I know I know it’s small but it’s better then him living in a small plastic container at a pet store I do plan on buying a 5 gallon tank and completely upgrading him like I said it’s my first time and didn’t want to go all out and do things incorrectly I just wanted to post some pictures and see if there’s anything I should worry about I did notice a bit of fin rot but it would make sense since 1 days ago he was at petsmart if there’s any good advice for beginners it would be super appreciated! He’s also staying in the back of the tank I added pictures and the filter is very very slow so I know that shouldn’t be affecting him. I’m just want to do a good job and I’m just stressing so much since fish are so fragile and tiny I’m done rambling 💞💞

  1. Get at least a 5 gal as soon as you can.

Did you put the water heater in and let it sit for an hour or two before plugging it in? I find that if you rush that it tends to not warm it enough. Water should be closer to 77-79 for the betta to be most comfortable.

You can check your thermometer for accuracy by getting a bunch of ice in a cup, fill with water, and see if thermometer reads close to 32 if it goes low enough

  2. Also if you have a store like Petco or PetSmart near you their app and website have lower prices than their in store and you have to show them the price on your phone and they will honor it in store. You could get an air pump and sponge filter for under $10 then get a 5 gal tank and you’re set.
