Too much slack when you reel in. Pull it all out and reel it back in with some tension.

Whenever you reel in, there should always be some tension on the line – if it’s not a fish, then make sure to apply finger pressure to hold the line against the rod (about where you hold the line to cast is fine) to keep it neat and tight on the reel.
To fix this how it is, you can either cast out as far as you can (although might be a problem with loose line, you won’t get as much distance and/or risk birds-nesting your spool) or else tie the loose end of your line to a tree, walk your rod as far away as you need to until you get to a section of correctly spooled line (hopefully you’ve still got some left under that lot somewhere!) then reel in as you walk back to the tree whilst holding the rod back slightly to keep the line taut.

Hook the end of the line to some like a tree or pole. Walk it out. Then reel it back in with tension on it.

What size rod/reel and what do you fish for?

Respool it with something like 8lb monofilament or flourocarbon line, I wouldn’t go over that 8lb test, and like others said, make sure it has good tension on while spooling and don’t reel up with a loose slack in the line

Respool it obviously
