There’s four scratches, three on one side, and one on the other. I have to assume it was grabbed or slashed by a bird, like an eagle or something.

Life in the water is rough. Even for a fish like a redfish, that eats all kinds of different things that we can use as bait, there are so many more larger predators waiting to take a bite off of it. The food chain is a bitch.
