does he need a filter, is there even a filter small enough for a gallon and a half? the shop keeper told me to put a pinch of aquarium salt in the water idk how much a “pinch” is so i did like 10 pieces since they’re kinda big, is this also okay for a fresh water fish?? im scared im gonna it worse 😭 im so attached already theyre so beautiful. also 2nd pic is the tank he’ll moving into, theres four mollies and a tetra i think, are they compatible with each other? will the mollies eat him?? i think they ate one of my tetras

  1. what leads you to believe there is a problem with his swim bladder? looks like a normal betta to me (can only tell so much from a still image)

  2. You can add a bit more salt. Daphnia is good for helping them poop, they get constipated and that can cause problems after a while. Females more than the males, but it’s hard to see if your buddy is bloated.

Put them in a seperate holding container and give him an epsom salt bath… 1 tbsp per gallon of water for no more than 10 minutes. That should get him pooping if he is backed up or has swim bladder

  4. It is a very good setup for a quarantine or a hospital tank, bare bottom is good as well to see if he poops. What is missing is a heater because a higher temperature 80F or so means a higher metabolism and is recommended in hospital tanks. I would also ad indian almond leafs as their tannins are beneficial for bettas and the water quality. I would do Epsom (not normsl salt!) salt baths as they act as a laxative and help ease symptoms of constipation and dropsy. It does not battle any underlying infection but helps the fish heal itself. Welcome to the hobby

I know they don’t need an air pump. This is my first betta with an air stone in the tank. And he seems to be doing better than the others who didn’t have an air stone.

Here’s my 5 gallon tank. I have 3 snails with him.

Tank is cloudy because I just cleaned it yesterday.

Our last betta got the bladder disease. He looked nothing like this one did. He would lay on his side at the top. Or “pinecone” he would just be floating at the top on side or the other.

    Is his body kinda bloated?

Betta fish often when brought from pet stores especially, struggle to swim at first while adjusting to water parameters. They get better within a day or two though.
