Hey y’all, beginner fisherman here.
I recently caught my first big pike and had some difficulty holding it. I was wondering if any of you had advice on how to hold them.
The issue I experienced was that then holding it by the gill cavity, my fingers were bleeding after I released it. Either i got caught in some small teeth or the gills are just sharp haha.
The pike did have two other treble hooks in its mouth from a failed attempt by another person. But i did not get those in my fingers.
So just wondering what i could have done differently.
I do know, when you want to hold them horizontally, to support the organs. Also I added a picture of a smaller one i could hold by its back. I’ve seen other people holding it like that. Is that ok?
