Was surprised to see this today, I’m assuming done by a biologist and at one point possibly had a tag of some sort attached?

  1. That fish likely had an internal monitoring tag of some sort. If it was large enough to require two incisions like that, it’s likely to monitor fish movement or biological data depending on what fisheries biologists are trying to study in that fish population. Often their presence can be picked up when a fish moves past a sensor in a lake or river.

  2. It probably has a radio or acoustic tag in it for tracking movements. Glad to see the fish has recovered from the surgery.
