been forever looking for a stand that isn’t particle board or super expensive for my 29g.

snagged this today off of fb marketplace for free! the shelves inside pull out and were a nice surprise (i thought it was a dresser).

it is pretty solid and well-made but leaving it out for a day with weights on it to test. 🏋️‍♀️

this is my first tank larger than 10g. because i’m paranoid, i plan to cover the top with waterproof contact paper, use a self-leveling mat, and have water sensors.

  1. Most of them will hold weight like that for a time. It’s when the weight is constant for weeks and months that it starts to bow. There will be moisture too, no matter what you do, that will also aid in softening up that wood. Those legs are pretty narrow as well, so I’d put something under them to distribute the weight a little better, otherwise they’ll leave marks in your floor. That said, it will most likely be ok, and shouldn’t catastrophically fail on you, but don’t be surprised if the doors get too narrow to close at the top after awhile.

  2. I wish the mods would pin this so we can stop with the constant “will my rickety ass night stand hold this 150 gallon?” posts

  3. Hooray! Someone else that does this! We have a weight set and also have done this with my two tanks. Once for a homemade stand and once to confirm that a nicer corner shelf could hold the weight it was advertised to hold. For the homemade stand, we also sat on it and wiggled around like crazy. In our driveway, for the whole world to witness.
