Picked up this new glide the other day and it way outperformed my expectations. This is the BBZ Bioshad from fish lab and it’s 20$ at dicks. I hooked into 3 sizable smallies in my first time using this lure however they all came off. I’m wondering if maybe using a MH fast rod and braid may be that significant of a problem for lures like this. I heard you can get away with a non dedicated swim bait rod and i have no issues casting. I also want to know if anyone has experience swapping out trebles with either smaller trebles or single hooks on glides like this, as i’m unsure how it will effect weight and hookup ratio.

  1. The combination of you using a fast rod with presumably straight braid could cause this. Treble hooks are very easy to pull out if you don’t have enough give in your setup. Should be an easy fix though, I would just use a fluro or mono leader with it for stretch and back off the brakes a little bit. Also I would absolutely not put smaller trebles on as the smaller the treble hook the easier it is to pull out.

  2. Could be a couple things. I like to have a mono leader when fishing small glide baits like this to act as a shock absorber. The little stretch helps keep the fish pinned.

You might also want to swap out those hooks. Those look large enough so I would look for wide gap treble hooks that are about the same size. You could maybe even go one size smaller on the front hook if you switch to wide gap.

Sounds like the hooks got ripped out. The fast rod, braid, and trebles combo is a nono. You have a few options to prevent this-you can spool with mono or flouro, or if you’re committed to the braid mainline either get a more moderate rod or run a mono/flouro/shock leader
