Depends on what you are going for, maybe for catfish, drum, carp, fish like those the ugly stik catfish rod, or the berkely big game rod but those are the only things i would go for with a 4000 size reel

With that weight and line capacity – I say heavier freshwater or light saltwater techniques.

I have a similar sized reel on a medium 7’ fast action rod and use it for mackerel. My reel is rated for 8-20lb though IIRC. Toss that on a MH and go find some stripers.
