thanks for the support and tips in the past post. as some pillow fisherman told me to use a feather as a lure. now do I cut all the feathers like to be the exact height as the hook or I leave some hanging or what and thanks

    Add a little string body with feather tail, add a split shot and you got yourself a jig, or you could tie it on a jig if you happen to have some around.

    Try to find some nice patterned feathers. 🪶.
    Something off a male pheasant or some other colourful bird. I think freshwater fish prefer patterns like that. Still use the one you have for now. No harm in trying it.

    We use feather traces (3-10 hooks to simulate a school of sprat or baitfish) in Ireland (but also the UK) for sea fishing to catch Atlantic Mackerel, Pollack and many other species. Usually multicoloured feathers. Most people have changed to sabikis but you still see people using feathers.

    They come from the shop with 1/4 to 1 inch of feather past the hook. I usually leave a small bit more when I tie them myself. And usually add some metallic plastic strips (the inside of a packet of chips/crisps will do)
    Might not work for freshwater however I have never tried it.
