Three trebles are always incredibly annoying to desl with. Fish get stuck all over their body and the unhooking takes a lot of time (time you could use to catch more fish) and damages the fish unnecessarily. There is no good reason I see why three trebles are ever needed on a jerkbait.

What do you guys do to solve this?

The most normal response I get is: Take away one treble hook. If it was that easy, I would. It isn’t, however. Jerkbaits I use are suspending. Taking away one hook means altering its density. I don’t want it to float, I want it to stay still if I make a 10 second stop in cold water.

I’ve tried using Nishine Outer Weights, which are pretty good. The water temp is very dependsnt on how your lure suspends though and sometimes these weights are a bit much…even when cut. Taking away a hook with weight would be a solution if I didn’t alter the movement and balance of the lure while doing so.

What do I do? I personally make all my trebles barbless. Then unhooking is way easier. I have never ever lost a fish on a jerkbait because I had barbless hooks. This solution also doesn’t make my suspending jerkbait into a floating one. I catch more fish because I don’t spend as much time unhooking fish. It’s a pretty good solution.

I would like to hear what you guys do.

Two lures that don’t have three treble hooks that I hook as many fish on (in my experience), is the Duo Realis 100SP and the Daiwa Tournament Minnow 120. I can recommend especially the Duo lure for people who want a less annoying jerkbait with only two trebles.
