Eagle Claw isn’t what I’d call high end,
But you want to learn, and you have a rod? Why not? Put an 8wt floating line on it and go learn how to double haul. I learned on a beat up old rod. I decided I liked fly fishing, kept practicing, and eventually upgraded.

Display that relic and go buy a cheap rod, decent reel were you can get extra affordable spols, and a premium flyline.
It will be easier to learn, better to fish with and you wont risk breaking your inherited rod 😄
