Well today I learned a few things.

  1. Raising your seat over a foot does not lead to a more enjoyable experience…for now 🤔

  2. It’s “tolerable” however you have to be very conscious of every move you make. The slightest shift of weight will give you that “I’m going over” feeling where you flinch and the brown star puckers. I used it majority of the day until some wind picked up and started pushing me side to side like a pendulum clock.

  3. The added height – being able to see down into the water better was amazing. Always loved to be able to do this. To those who would say “just get a boat” No. I like being able to go in 6 inches of water and worry about nothing (except the transducer) The main place I like to fish is a wildlife reserve with many different lakes and ponds. Lugging a kayak in/out is significantly easier since it’s just going in the truck bed. They’re all relatively close to each other so I don’t even unload it. Just throw it on, one strap and I’m good to go. I can pull up unload and be in the water in 5 minutes unless I’m leaving or just starting for the day.

  4. I believe with an outrigger kit it will be significantly more stable. I’m looking into just making my own instead of buying one. The idea I have is large 6” PVC maybe 10-12” long – capped off with more 3/4” as the “rod” holding it on. I believe I could attach a bracket on the kayak for the 3/4” rod to slide through and have a hole on the end for a bolt to go through to prevent it from sliding back out. Maybe one on the out side of the bracket to stop it sliding inward. Having a set on the front and back would vastly improve stability if they function how I want them to. If anyone has suggestions or has fabricated their own please share some ideas.

  5. The added space would be cool. Right behind my seat I usually have a milk crate with my tackle and miscellaneous stuff I use. I also have a tiny 12v AGM battery in here for my fish finder. The frame is the PERFECT size for my tackle boxes (just a food storage container with soft plastics and two actual tackle compartment things. Idk what they’re called lol) Also I think there’s enough space for me fit a small battery box for my battery. Having all this stuff directly under me would be more convenient and comfortable for ME specifically. I have back issues and sometimes the twisting gets me. I could then keep my cooler right behind me instead of behind the milk crate which would be removed by this point. More times than I’d want to admit I’d just leave my cooler in the truck cause I don’t want to have to reach waaaaaaay back to get it.

  6. Don’t attempt to cast near stumps/fallen trees that have a hornets nest hanging….lessons learned the hard way today🙃

Side note – completely forgot to take pics even though I was on the water till the sun started going down. Refer to #6 for reason as it happened right after I put in at my first lake.
