So I’m new to this, I bought this line and the memory of it keeps it in some sort of coiled shape. I stretched it out for like 30 minutes and then I realesed the thing that hold the line and it comes out in a giant mess (pic below). How do you prevent this? How do you make it so the memory of it goes away?

  1. Out of curiosity what are you fishing for? 80lb line seems pretty heavy since you’re reeling spool is rated for 6-8 lb line

Line is way too thick bud. I could make suggestions based on what you are trying to accomplish.

Ol dude is fishing for Moby dick with 80l. Line!

Get some 6 lb line and call it a day lol. Stay off the bottom shelf of the tackle store lol.

I’d use braid, tbh. It’s so easy to work with and is super sensitive to bites. Put a mono/fluoro leader on it.

  5. Your line is too big for rod. Check the rod ratings on the side of the pole and use line within that rating. I would stick to fluoro or mono line if you’re a beginner.

  6. That line is waaaayyyyy too heavy for that rig. I don’t think you can wrap it on tight enough to overcome the memory of line that thick, and I’d be shocked if you could get 30 yards of that spooled before the reel is full anyway.

You want 8lb line, not 80lb. That should solve your problem. You can also soak your mono in warm water to relax it a bit while you’re spooling if the line has too much memory.

  7. That looks like an Ugly Stik GX2 combo, medium action rod. The reel that it comes with is not rated for 80lb line

  8. Get some 20 or 30lb braid. It doesn’t have coil memory and is a lot thinner in diameter than mono.
