Anyone know how this happened? And more importantly, how do I get the smell out my gloves?

I was catfishing and when I landed the fish and looked at him I saw blood coming out of his mouth and gills. After my initial “wha- did I do that? Oh no” I went to unhook him and realized his mouth was all torn up and my gloves were covers in his slime and blood. I tried washing the gloves and the smell won’t come out. Any tips? And why did this happen and how can I prevent this? (If I can)
