is this a normal amount of fin curling or are his fins rotting? they started curling after i had gotten him, which is a bit over a month.

  1. also he was in a bowl when i first got him. he was moved into a tank soon after but the curling started when he was in the bowl. could it just be the lack of space he had for a bit?

my black crowntail had the ends of his fins curled for a while, i believe it was from my water hardness i’ve had him for about 10 months and they are finally back to normal, i fixed it by every water change i would do half bottled water and half sink water.

although hard water isn’t exactly harmful to them if you’re concerned about their fins, you can add aquarium soil or a driftwood/ other types of tannins, although i see your water is already dark so hard water might not be the issue

  4. is it just the lighting or does your water have a lot of tannins from driftwood or almond leaves? if that sepia tone is the colour of your water it’s soft already. but unless you’re up for trimming his fins the curling is permanent.
