Im sure some will say it’s an accident waiting to happen, and to them I say we shall see. I’v been wanting to add another tank in the garage but have also wanted to clear up some workbench so I decided to try to build a floating tank stand. The stand holds 2 10 gallon tanks and one 29 gallon tank.

I built the frame out of 1x1x1/8” steel angle with 1/4” support plates under the ends and 2 in the middle where the tanks meet. The upper brackets on the wall are 1/4” steel and there are 4 1/8” steel cables attaching them to the main frame. All of this is held to the wall with a total of 8 4.5” ledger locks.

So far there is no bowing, bending, moving or anything else that would indicate that something may fail. All thats left besides setting up the middle tank is figuring out the lighting, and tidying up the wiring and air lines.

  1. Is there solid wood behind the wall that the screws are in? This idea is super cool but too scary for me lol
